The Usekh is a personal ornament, a type of collar or necklace, familiar to many because of its presence in widely-disseminated depictions of ancient Egyptian nobility, such as Tutankhamun, where an example can be seen on the famous gold mask.
A collar is usually attached to a garment, whereas the usekh is a wide collar-shaped piece of jewellery draped around and supported by the neck and shoulders and without holes which would expose the skin underneath. It is almost a piece of clothing in its own right.
Usekh often contained precious stones and amulets, and were connected with clasps of gold.[1]
